Triple Your Luck's win
down to Polytrack 02/08/2008
Trainer Dr Yeoh Kheng Chye put the success of
Triple Your Luck (AUS) in the $35,000 Maiden Stakes over 1400m on
Saturday down to the gelding’s work on the Polytrack training
surface that has recently been installed.
Dr Yeoh was in a playful mood, but with good
reason.
Triple Your Luck is part-owned and was bred by Kim
Elliott, Chairman of the Proinn Group, which holds the Australasian
licence for Polytrack.
The Singapore Turf Club is currently in the process
of replacing the fibresand racing surface on track 2 with Polytrack
and Elliott is playing an active role in overseeing the
operation.
“I train him on the Polytrack all the time,” said
Dr Yeoh. “It’s such a good surface. I can’t wait for the new racing
surface to come.”
Elliott retains full ownership of Triple Your Luck
and has leased a 50% share in the gelding to the Toast Trust No 12
Stable.
An Australian, Elliott also bred Triple Your Luck’s
half-brother - Triple Pe - who won almost $200,000 for his breeder
in Queensland.
“Things have been progressing well on the
installation of the track,” said Elliott. “But I suppose I will now
be buying dinner for the rest of the week.”
Ridden by Danny Beasley, Triple Your Luck scored by
three-quarters-of-a-length over Music Star (Gavin McKeon) with
Ninetyfive Light (Mark Gallagher) a half-length away
third.
The pace was set up by Rising Shadow (John Powell)
and Power N Win (Mohd Zaki) who led the field over Fabulous Gem
(Din Azis) and Triple Your Luck.
This quartet still held sway as the field made the
home bend when Beasley quickly had Triple Your Luck out in the
running line.
The pair swept to the lead with 200m to go and
despite tiring slightly on the line, held on for a comfortable
victory.
“It was good advice from jockey Beasley that we
were able to win,” said Dr Yeoh.
“We had been looking for a 1600m race with Triple
Your Luck, but the jockey said to look for a 1400m
race.
“It all turned out with happy
results.”
Triple Your Luck is a five-year-old son of Seven
Figures from the Sharivari mare Banker’s Hope and has now won
almost $40,000 in prizemoney.
