Singapore Turf Club
Riding Centre
1st October
2008
Launched by
Mrs Lim Hwee Hua, Senior Minister of State for Finance and
Transport on Wednesday, 1 October 2008, the Riding Centre is a
community project by the Singapore Turf Club and its parent body,
the Tote Board. The Centre's primary aim is to promote riding to
the general public, in particular school children from 8 to 18
years of age, at affordable prices.
Targeted
for completion in September 2009, the Centre, located on a
3-hectare site next to the Singapore Racecourse at Kranji, will
have two world-class riding arenas to cater to riders of all ages,
from novices to the more experienced; a viewing gallery which can
accommodate up to 250 people; an administration building with
classrooms; a café as well as a tack shop selling riding
equipment. The Centre will operate seven days a week, from 7am
to 9pm.
Through its programmes,
the Centre aims to build confidence and self-esteem in the young as
well as instill in them a greater sense of descipline and
focus.
The long term goal of the Centre is to build a strong riding
community in Singapore. The Singapore Turf Club Riding Centre is
honoured to be the venue for equestrian sports for the Youth
Olympics Games in Singapore in 2010.
